Domestic Violence Intake may be able to assist with your unique legal needs. The District of Columbia has two Domestic Violence Intake Centers, one located at the D.C. Superior Court and another at United Medical Center (formerly Greater Southeast Hospital). Both are run by a partnership of the Court, SAFE (Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment), the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, the Legal Aid Society, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Their services are supplemented by other agencies that provide various services. The centers serve as the primary entry point into the legal system for victims of domestic violence. Victims may receive assistance with filing a petition for a civil protection order, obtaining a temporary protection order if they are in immediate danger, filing a child support case, pursuing a criminal case, requesting legal representation, and meeting their safety and social service needs during a period of crisis.
