Legal Aid Society: Anti-Displacement and Tenant Protection Program may be able to assist with your unique legal needs. The Legal Aid Society is a private, not-for-profit legal services organization, the oldest and largest in the nation, dedicated since 1876 to providing quality legal representation to low-income New Yorkers. It is dedicated to one simple but powerful belief: that no New Yorker should be denied access to justice because of poverty. The Anti-Displacement and TenantProtection Unit is a joint project of The Legal Aid Society and Legal Services NYC and provides housing legal assistance and representation through a combination of eviction defense, affirmative litigation, and advocacy designed to stabilize housing conditions and prevent the harassment and displacement of low-income tenants. The Unit provides outreach in high-risk zip codes designated for rezoning in all five boroughs of the City, has a live-answer hotline for affected neighborhoods, and collaborates with community organizations and elected officials to build awareness of their constituents at-risk of displacement.
