Legal Services NYC- South Brooklyn- Child Care Project may be able to assist with your unique legal needs. South Brooklyn Legal Services’ Child Care Project works with family child care providers and their networks to address legal issues in the child care field. Our services include individual representation, policy advocacy, organizational support, and training. If you are a licensed or registered child care provider, we can assist you with such legal issues as licensing disputes with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, eviction proceedings, and payment problems for care subsidized through New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services. The Project also assists child care networks with organizational and policy issues, and provides technical assistance to network staff on individual cases and general legal issues. The Project provides free educational workshops and materials to networks and providers. Training topics include: income tax issues and financial record keeping for child care providers, liability insurance, advocating for subsidy payments, housing protections for child care providers, government benefits, contracts and policies, and tax withholding for child care businesses with employees. In collaboration with the Business Outreach Center Network and the Child Development Support Corporation, we also provide legal assistance to participants in an intensive, 45-hour child care business development course. The Child Care Project works with providers and organizations throughout New York City. While preference is given to clients in our catchment area, we will accept cases from other areas when staff time permits.
