Travis County Pro Se Service Reference Attorney may be able to assist with your unique legal needs. If you have a family law matter that will be heard at Travis County uncontested docket, you may qualify to be assisted by a library reference attorney who can give you information, but not legal advice. At “uncontested docket,” a judge hears court cases in which both sides agree on all the issues involved. There is no jury. If both sides (litigants) in the case do not agree, then the case cannot be heard at uncontested docket and neither side can be assisted by the reference attorney. To qualify for the reference attorney’s assistance, your case must be: Filed in Travis County court; Uncontested (meaning that both parties agree on all the issues involved in the case) or default (meaning that there is only one party in the suit or the second party fails to respond to the suit); A family-law case. Family law cases include things like name change, divorce, modification of divorce orders, etc.; and A pro se case. Pro se means that you are representing yourself in court. The reference attorney cannot assist with: Legal advice. Criminal cases. Cases which are not filed in Travis County and will not be heard at Travis County uncontested docket. Contested matters, appeals, or enforcement cases. Non-family law matters such as wills, probate, workers’ compensation, foreclosure, liens, landlord-tenant disputes, occupational driver’s license, etc. Adoption of children and termination of parental rights. Hours and Location Hours: Appointments to visit with the reference attorney are available Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The reference attorney also attends uncontested docket.
