Does this qualify as some sort of discrimination?

I have been employed with a company for 3 months shy of a decade. I have been well respected by the managers I have worked with, and have built lasting trusted relationships with an endless number of repeat customers who ask for me by name when they come. I have gained extensive knowledge in this industry, and have trained not only coworkers but also new superiors. I have recently attempted to advance my career, but have been turned down for the positions I have applied for, being told I “am not ready for an assistant manager position or manager training program. but can come up with a sales event, set a sales goal for that event, and if the goal is met then things can be reevaluated in a few months”. I then find out that some one has been given the position who has only been with the company for just over a year (that I helped train in their fist 6 months and continue to do so when we work together because he still has not gained the necessary amount of knowledge about the industry yet) and has not had to put on any kind of sales event or been required to accomplish any type of task to “prove himself”, has been given the position instead. I am a 47 year old Caucasian female that speaks English and very little Spanish and he is a 20-something male who came from Peru, so he speaks fluent Spanish and English is his second language. (Bi-ligual was NOT listed as a requirement or prerequisite for being considered for this position). I am confused as to how someone who has the amount of experience and knowledge I have and has been VERY dedicated and loyal to the company for basically a decade is passed up for someone who has minimal experience with the company cause he has only been an employee for less than 3 years…. there is more to the situation that also makes no sense, but I will see what kind of response what I have said thus far gets first
